Jo Knowlton was sitting in the driver's seat of a new car she had booked for a test drive after finally saving up enough money in February last year.

The 29-year-old, from Peebles, tried to turn the key in the ignition but her hand didn't move. She tried harder and the engine started, so she assumed the key had just been stiff.

Jo said: "I hadn’t driven for years and was finally in the position to afford a car of my own. "I sat in the driving seat with the salesman next to me and my mum in the back, both waiting for me to start the car. "I tried to turn the key and nothing happened.
