Workers forced to self-isolate could be given cash payouts to encourage them to stay at home to stop the spread of coronavirus, it has been reported.
Government research found that just one in five people are actually observing the stay-at-home rules after developing Covid-19 symptoms.
The study also found that workers earning below £20,000 are less likely to remain in quarantine for the full 14 days. It has emerged that workers could now be given a one-off payment of “hundreds of pounds” to persuade them to stay indoors if they need to self-isolate.
It is not clear how much people would receive, but reports say it will be "significantly more" than the maximum £182 that was made available in the pilot scheme.
