SANTA CLARA, Calif. - A very smart, brave, and innocent 15-year-old is recovering after a horrific experience last Friday.Gianna Vitarelli and her girlfriend were leaving Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara when suddenly something happened."Me and her heard a really loud 'thwack' noise and I immediately said 'Ow!'" Gianna recalled.It turns out she was hit by a drive-by pellet gun projectile, a situation the Santa Clara police are now investigating. "We turned around to see what that was, and we just see a car driving off, rolling up its window," the teen said.After blood started flowing from the wound, paramedics thought it was a relatively minor piercing of her skin. But, as her condition worsened, and her breathing was labored, doctors found out it was much worse."My wife took her to urgent care and they had done an X-ray and that's where they found the pellet," said her father, Mike Vitarelli.The pellet had done its damage."It had collapsed my lung, fractured a rib, it caused a lot of internal bleeding and then it almost hit my heart," said Gianna.That serious injury caused Gianna to have emergency surgery and spend three days in the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit.The pellet is and will remain in her lung."It's going to take a long time to recover.

ELIZABETH, N.J. - A New Jersey man who killed his ex-girlfriend and drove their toddler son to Tennessee with her body in the trunk last July has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. Tyler Rios pleaded guilty in April to aggravated manslaughter and desecrating human remains in the death of 24-year-old Yasemin Uyar. The Union County Prosecutor's Office in New Jersey says Rios killed Uyar in her Rahway home, then fled with their 2-year-old son. The boy eventually was found unharmed at a hotel in Monterey, Tennessee. Uyar's body was found nearby in a wooded area off Interstate 40.

UPPER MERION, Pa. - Police are searching for a group of young men who they say tried to steal two purses in the parking lot of King of Prussia Mall and fled in a carjacked vehicle. The Upper Merion Police Department said at least two attempted thefts happened in the mall parking lot around 9 p.m. Monday. A woman reported that she was getting into her car when she was approached by a young man who tried to forcibly take her purse, according to police. The woman told officers that a red sedan with at least two others inside parked behind her during the attempted theft. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESWhile responding officers were talking to the victim, police were approached by another woman who said someone in a passing red sedan tried to steal her purse. The second victim told police the attempted theft happened in the parking lot near the Neiman Marcus store. Authorities used surveillance footage to discover that the vehicle, a red 2010 Toyota Corolla, was reported stolen earlier in the day during a carjacking in Philadelphia. The Upper Merion Police Department shared photos of the suspects and the vehicle.

Man in custody after reported barricade situation in Burlington County BURLINGTON COUNTY, N.J. - A man is in custody after officials say a fatal shooting developed into an hours-long standoff Tuesday morning.SWAT teams responded after a man reportedly barricaded himself inside a home on the 600 block of Bentley Avenue in Burlington County.Officials say another man was shot to death inside the home around 1:15 a.m., prompting a standoff with law enforcement.A woman and four children were released unharmed after several hours, according to officials. The suspect surrendered around 8:30 a.m. Beverly City School, which is across the street, was shut down as the standoff unfolded."Due to police activity currently taking place on Bentley Avenue, the Beverly City School District will be closed on Tuesday, June 14th, 2022, to ensure everyone's safety," the school said in an alert on their website.No further details regarding the man in custody, or the cause of the barricade were provided by officials.

Police say teen shot at motel in New Castle. NEW CASTLE, Del. - A 14-year-old boy was struck after police say gunfire erupted during a drive-by shooting outside a motel Monday night.Police say multiple gunshots were fired from the passenger side of a dark-colored sedan.

Police say a man was shot multiple times in West Philadelphia. PHILADELPHIA - A man is in very critical condition after police say it appears he was ambushed while walking on a street early Tuesday morning.Police found a man bleeding heavily when they responded to several reports of gunshots at North Preston Street and Haverford Avenue around 1:30 a.m.The man in his 20s was reportedly shot multiple times in the torso and stomach.

TRENTON, N.J. - A woman who says she suffered serious injuries while trying to save her neighbors’ dog from a canal can’t sue the pooch’s owners, New Jersey’s Supreme Court ruled on Monday.The court unanimously rejected Ann Samolyk’s claims that laws allowing legal action for injuries suffered while rescuing a person who put themselves in peril should allow her to sue for damages. But the justices acknowledged that the law could apply to property in some cases where protecting human life also is the ultimate aim.In her lawsuit, Samolyk alleged she suffered neurological and cognitive damage after jumping into the canal in Lacey Township at the New Jersey shore in 2017 to save the dog after she heard someone call for help.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose police are investigating the shooting death of three people, a crime they’re characterizing as a murder-suicide, which ended up in the deaths of a couple and an apartment security guard who stepped in to help. The deaths occurred Sunday about 1:30 a.m. in a part of the city not accustomed to violence: Crescent Village Apartments near Cisco Way and River Oaks Parkway.Police said a couple with six children were having a domestic dispute in the parking lot when the apartment security guard tried to intervene. Police say the man fatally shot the guard, the woman and then turned the gun on himself. Police said the gun he used had a serial number scratched off, which is illegal in California. None of those killed were immediately identified. A woman at the complex who didn’t want to be identified said she was watching a movie when she heard something unusual."But I thought it was like knocking or fireworks because this is a pretty safe neighborhood.

PHILADELPHIA - A 51-year-old man is in critical condition after police say he was shot multiple times Sunday evening.The man was shot in the lower back, chest and neck on the 3400 block of North Water Street, according to police.He was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he is said to be in critical condition.Another man was also reportedly injured in the shooting. Police say a second victim, a 27-year-old man, was shot in the lower body.

Police say a man was shot dead in West Oak Lane. PHILADELPHIA - A man is dead after an alleged shooting in West Oak Lane Sunday afternoon.Police say a 26-year-old man was shot in the head on the 1500 block of 68th Avenue around noon.He was pronounced dead on the scene.Two other men were taken into custody, according to police.

PHILADELPHIA - It's been a week since a deadly mass shooting on South Street completely rocked the city of Philadelphia.Three people were killed and nearly a dozen injured after gunmen opened fire on South Street as crowds gathered for a busy Saturday night.Restaurants and stores along the popular thoroughfare say they have experienced a significant decline in business since the devastating shooting, and are now asking the community for support."It was definitely a challenging week," said Nora Portugal, owner of Nora’s Kitchen on 3rd and South streets.Despite the summer weather and several events happening in the area, Potrugal says business just hasn't kept up. Some barricades from last weekend still remain in place outside some stores."This is our high season," she said.

PHILADELPHIA - Two female victims were injured after police say they were shot in Kensington early Sunday morning.The alleged shooting occurred on the 300 block of East Westmoreland Street around 4:37 a.m.Police say a 17-year-old suffered a graze wound to the back of the head. She was transported to Temple University Hospital, where she is said to be in stable condition.Another victim, a 22-year-old woman, was reportedly shot in the arm.

The child's grandmother was also wounded and told police that Darain Bennett took the child. The toddler and suspect are believed to be traveling in a black Honda Accord.

PHILADELPHIA - Police say two daytime shootings in West Philadelphia have left two men in critical condition Saturday.A 28-year-old man was reportedly shot five times on the 400 block of North Daggett Street around 2 p.m. He was struck once in the arm, once in the stomach and three times in the back.He was transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where he is said to be in critical condition.Less than an hour later, police say another man is in critical condition after being shot about 4 miles away on the 1700 block of Wilton Street.

Police say a teen was killed in a shooting in East Germantown. PHILADELPHIA - Police say one person is dead, and another injured after a shooting in East Germantown Saturday evening.An 18-year-old was reportedly shot in the head and shoulder on the 5500 block of Devon Street around 5:46 p.m.

CHESTER COUNTY, Pa. - A man was shot dead after an alleged argument in Coatesville Friday night.Police found the 38-year-old when they responded to reports of gun shots at 5th Avenue and East Lincoln Highway around 9 p.m.The man reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the hip. He later died after undergoing surgery at Paoli Hospital.Witnesses told police that two men started an argument with the man and his cousin.

LEVITTOWN, Pa. - A Pennsylvania man shot and killed a neighbor's American Bulldog that he claims attacked his German Shepard during a morning walk, according to police. Officers from the Bristol Township Police Department were called to a home on Middlewood Lane Friday morning for reports of a dog shot by a neighbor. Police found a white American Bulldog shot to death on the front yard of a residence. Police say a man claimed that he and his German Shepard were walking past a home when the Bulldog escaped the yard and started to attack his dog.The man, according to police, is legally licensed to carry and fired one shot that fatally struck the Bulldog.No arrests were reported immediately following the incident. 

PHILADELPHIA - An afternoon shooting in Philadelphia claimed the life of a teenage boy and injured a teenage girl, according to police. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 800 block of Bridge Street around 4 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Police found a 14-year-old boy suffering from gunshot wound to the chest.

GASTONIA, N.C. - Three people were being treated for wounds that were not life-threatening after a shooting Friday at a mall in North Carolina, police said.Rick Goodale, a spokesman for the Gastonia Police Department, said the shooting happened around noon Friday in the food court of the Eastridge Mall in Gastonia.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities are searching for a man who they believe exited a car on a Philadelphia street corner and fired deadly gunshots at a man in broad daylight. The Philadelphia Police Department shared video of the brazen shooting that happened in late May on 5800 block of North 16th Street.Video shared by the department shows the wanted suspect dressed in dark clothes exit a dark gray Dodge Journey and run towards the street corner raising a gun.Police say he fired at a 33-year-old man, striking him fatally in the head, and sprinted back to the Dodge. The vehicle used in the deadly shooting is believed to have a license plate number of LRG-1278, according to police. Anyone with information on the shooting should contact Philadelphia police. The city is offering a $20k reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

But Justice Samuel Alito warned in a dissent that the issue could affect the November elections.Last week, Alito had imposed a temporary hold on counting the ballots to give the justices more time to consider the matter.

PHILADELPHIA - Two individuals taken into custody in connection with Saturday's deadly mass shooting on South Street will be facing murder charges, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced Thursday. This comes one day after officials released photos of two males who were identified as the third and fourth suspects in the shooting that left three people dead and nearly a dozen wounded on the popular Philadelphia street. Krasner identified the two suspects as Quadir Dukes-Hill, 18 and Nahjee Whittington, 18. Both were taken into custody by U.S. Marshalls in Virginia, according to Krasner. Officials say Dukes-Hill is facing murder charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Alexis Quinn, 27. According to Krasner, Whittington was just four days shy of his 18th birthday when he allegedly fired the shot that fatally struck Kristopher Minners, 22, and injured another man. Joanne Pescatore, the head of the DAO's Homicide Unit, said the department received several tips after posting photos of the suspects with a reward for information. Dukes-Hill and Whittington will be charged in adult court after a hearing in Virginia to extradite them back to Philadelphia. Pescatore says investigators believe the suspects are friends because they were seen wearing hoodies with the same logo and they are believed to have traveled to Virginia together. Two other suspects, Quran Garner and Rashaan Vereen, were taken into custody by authorities on Monday and they face several charges related to the shooting. Police believe the shooting stemmed from a fist fight between three men that escalated into a shootout.

SKYFOX over a home in Northampton where authorities are investigating after two adults were found dead.  NORTHAMPTON, Pa. - Police have launched a death investigation in Northampton after one person was found dead and another injured on Wednesday. According to authorities, police responded to a home in the area around 5 p.m. for a report of a man who was possibly displaying suicidal behaviors. Police say officers entered the home and found an adult woman dead and an adult man with injuries to the head. Officials did not specify the type of head wound or how it was caused.

PHILADELPHIA - Family and friends gather Wednesday to remember Alexis Quinn, a 22-year-old woman killed in the crossfire of a mass shooting last weekend on South Street. Quinn's mother, Tina, attended the memorial that included a balloon release. Loved ones say Quinn was a home health aid who loved to help others. "She was a good girl, you know, always helping people," Tina Quinn said.

PHILADELPHIA - Officials in Philadelphia say an arrest warrant has been issued for a person they believe killed an innocent bystander during a mass shooting on South Street. "The District Attorney’s Office has approved an arrest warrant for the murder of one of the two innocent bystanders killed during the South Street mass shooting on Saturday night," the District Attorney's Office said. Officials did not share the named of the wanted suspect and said they will not release the person's name until they are brought into custody. The manhunt for a murder suspect comes as authorities approved charges against two men already in custody in connection to the deadly weekend shooting. Quran Garner, 18, faces charges of aggravated assault, assault of a law enforcement officer and weapons charges.

PHOENIX - Police say the man caught on video brutally attacking a Cricket Wireless employee before getting away with phones and cash from a store in Phoenix has been caught three days later.The incident happened on June 4 at a Cricket Wireless on Bethany Home Road. Surveillance video released by the Phoenix Police Department shows the man approaching the employee, who then asks him if he needs help."How can I help you?" the employee asked.The man starts to respond before violently attacking the employee.Police say they are looking for a man who was caught on video brutally attacking an employee before getting away with phones and cash from the store.

PHILADELPHIA - Days after a deadly mass shooting erupted along one of Philadelphia's most popular thoroughfares, Mayor Kenney and Commissioner Outlaw spoke to business owners shaken by the violence that left three dead and nearly a dozen injured."The cause is not the children being down here it’s the weapons and the access to them. Remove the weapons and it becomes a fist fight," said Michael Clark, a South Street business owner. Authorities believe the deadly mass shooting happened when a fist fight between three men escalated into a shooting.
