LOWER MERION, Pa. - A volunteer Lower Merion firefighter is back doing what he loves after recovering from an accident on I-76 last summer.Sam Shaffer, 18, is back with the Lower Merion High School's men’s lacrosse team as he makes his debut back on the field this week after recovering from severe injuries caused by an accident that seriously injured one of his colleagues and killed another. Back on July 24, around 3 a.m., emergency crews responded to a crash involving two vehicles in the westbound lanes of I-76 in Lower Merion Township.At 3:23 a.m., authorities say Jacquelyn Walker, 63, was operating a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the right lane as she approached the scene of the crash. They say she then crossed over the rumble strips on the side of the highway and plowed into the crash scene, injuring Shaffer and his friend, Alex Fischer and killing firefighter, Tom Royds. RELATED:Shaffer was flown from the scene of the accident to Penn Presbyterian where he spent about a week with a brain bleed, fractured eye socket, broken leg, and a torn ACL and MCL. Now, Shaffer is back in both uniforms, and he says he owes it all to his family and his never-give-up attitude. "It feels great finally getting back out with the family, the team, firefighting again, it feels great," he said.

EMMAUS, Pa. - A Lehigh Valley Borough is suing nearly 2 dozen companies that make foam used to put out fires because officials in the borough say that the toxic chemicals found in the foam were also found in its water supply. The Borough of Emmaus is alleging that two of the borough's wells became contaminated from a nearby fire-fighting facility. They're saying that the foam, which was used at the facility for more than 50 years, seeped into the ground and contaminated the water wells. Officials from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) say that when they tested the water wells of Emmaus last year, they found well over the 70 parts per trillion of cancer-causing chemicals that the EPA deems safe. In one of the wells, which is 150 feet away from the fire facility, the EPA say they found 456 parts per trillion of the chemicals.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. - Johnny Depp is expected to take the stand Tuesday in the defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard that's playing out in a Fairfax County, Virginia courthouse.According to an online report on People.com, Depp is expected to testify Tuesday in person. The report says a cross-examination will happen Wednesday.The trial began last week when a jury was selected in a long-anticipated libel lawsuit filed by Depp against Heard over an op-ed piece she wrote in The Washington Post in 2018 in which Heard refers to herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse."The Post article doesn't mention Depp by name, but he says it clearly refers to her allegation that she suffered physical abuse at his hands.

PHILADELPHIA - A spring nor'easter will impact the Delaware Valley Monday night with bouts of heavy rain and strong wind gusts that will continue into early Tuesday morning. Forecasters expect scattered showers to move in from the southwest during the mid-to-late afternoon and organize during the evening to engulf the region. Temperatures that hovered around 50 degrees on Monday will dip into the mid-40s overnight. FOX 29's Scott Williams says winds will gust close to 30 MPH. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of the Lehigh Valley, including the Poconos, where they could see 3-6 inches of snow.The nor'easter will move out of the region ahead of Tuesday morning's commute.

On Easter Sunday, there were 1,290 people reported to be in hospital with COVID, with 197 in ICUs.Due to the holiday weekend, figures were not available on Easter Sunday so two sets of data were released on Monday for both days.Last Monday, there were 1,090 hospitalizations with 184 in ICU. This is a 19 per cent and 9.7 per cent increase, respectively, to the figures this week.According to latest data for hospitalizations from the weekend, 52 per cent were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for COVID-19.
