The British government has said a further 93,045 Covid-19 cases have been recorded today, the highest daily total recorded since the pandemic began, and a rise of 4,669 on the previous record set yesterday.
The government there also said a further 111 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19. Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 172,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
The figures come as passengers rushed to beat a midnight deadline for travel to and from Britain and France, complaining of an overly-draconian reaction and costly last-minute ticket changes before tough new Covid restrictions come into force.
