The UK coronavirus death toll has risen by 599, with 37,535 more cases recorded. Since the pandemic began 89,860 people in the country have died of Covid-19 within 28 days of testing positive, Department of Health data shows.
In the past seven days alone the disease killed 7,830. While today's death toll is higher than last Monday's, when 563 people died, the case count is significantly down from the 54,940 positive tests returned seven days ago.
Yesterday the death toll jumped 671 - the highest increase on any Sunday during the pandemic. Last week was a particularly grim one in terms of the numbers dying from Covid-19.
