There are 28 areas in England where coronavirus infections are still surging while rates plummet in London and the South, according to the latest data.

Knowsley in Merseyside has the highest case rate overall with 1,777, but its figures dipped in the seven days up to January 14 compared to up to the week before.

The town saw its cases drop down by 1,346.3 in the seven days to January 7. Slough has the second highest rate, down slightly from 1,090.7 to 1,042.5, with 1,559 new cases.

Barking and Dagenham in London has dropped to third place, down from 1,544.3 to 1,028.6, with 2,190 new cases. The capital as a whole is increasingly turning the tide on Covid-19 with eight boroughs seeing drops of more than 1,000 in the number of weekly

In North Wildwood, the summer begins Friday with the annual convoy of trucks hauling sand north where the beaches are closed after another winter storm stole hundreds of feet of the precious beachfront. Red lines show where the sand was last summer and the area is identified as one of the worst eroding beaches in New Jersey. The state is expected to spend another $3.5 million this year to get the beach ready for summer. The same is happening in Ocean City, where beachgoers are navigating six-foot sand cliffs.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Police in Egg Harbor Township said they have arrested a woman and will be charging her with four counts of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a child.
