It’s believed a man out for a walk with his partner and young children was deliberately targeted during a disturbing daylight shooting caught on video in west Edmonton last weekend.

carjackings that forced police to shoot their weapons came to an end early Wednesday in southeast Edmonton, but not before the suspect allegedly used one of the stolen vehicles to ram another driver dozens of times during the morning rush hour on the south leg of Anthony Henday Drive.Shortly after 8 p.m., officers responded to “a white Dodge Ram truck actively smashing into other vehicles in the area of 117 Avenue and 102 Street,” police said in a news release Wednesday morning.“Police determined the male driver has been involved in two violent, armed carjackings earlier that evening in Downtown Branch.”When police arrived, the driver got out of the truck and there was a confrontation between him and the officers. One of the officers fired their gun.The driver jumped back in the truck, fled the area and was involved in another armed carjacking nearby, police said.

Police say the suspect in the stabbing deaths of a mother and child outside a school in Edmonton last week has died in hospital.The man was shot by police Friday after a 35-year-old woman and her 11-year-old child were stabbed outside Crawford Plains School in the southeastern part of the city.Police say an autopsy on the 33-year-old man is scheduled for Tuesday.They say investigators have determined he is the sole person responsible for the deaths of the mother and child.Family members identified them as Carolann Robillard and Sarah Miller, who had recently started using the first name Jayden.The suspect, who was known to police and had a record of assaulting children, was found by officers shortly after the attack.Police say he was shot after an altercation with officers and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating.They are not releasing the name of the suspect.

Global News sources confirm the body of an 8-year-old girl who went missing from west Edmonton earlier this week has been found in Maskwacis, Alta.

Edmonton Police Service has charged two adults in relation to the death of  the eight-year-old girl, whose body has not been found.On Monday evening, police in the west end stopped by to check in on the wellbeing of a child at a home near 87 Avenue and 165 Street.Police said the child was nowhere to be found and began investigating. There were “suspicious circumstances” and EPS said the homicide section took over early the next morning.

Travis Jordan and Brett Ryan, and give thanks for their service ahead of a regimental funeral for the slain police officers on Monday afternoon.As Jordan and Ryan’s bodies are transported from the Alberta legislature to Rogers Place, where the funeral is being held, Edmontonians are being invited to line the procession route to pay their respects and say their goodbyes.Jordan, 35, and Ryan, 30, were responding to a call at an apartment complex in Edmonton’s Inglewood neighbourhood on March 16 when they were shot and killed by a 16-year-old male.Investigators believe the officers were shot before they had a chance to even pull out their guns. The suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound while his mother remains in hospital after sustaining injuries when she tried to wrestle the gun away from her son.“The Edmonton Police Service has been marked by a really unthinkable and horrific tragedy as two of our members have died in the line of duty,” EPS Chief Dale McFee said.On Sunday afternoon, the Ryan and Jordan families released statements thanking the community for its support while they grieve.“Grieving the sudden loss of a beloved member of our family is ineffable,” the Ryan family said.

The suspect is also dead. Police said they believe he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while his mother was hospitalized after being injured in what police believe was a struggle with her son that began after the shots were first fired.

A 55-year-old woman fought to get the gun away from her son and was shot herself after he killed two Edmonton Police Service officers who were responding to a domestic violence call in their home overnight Thursday.

One of the police officers killed in Edmonton was about to be a father for the first time and the other was called a “snow angel” for going beyond the call of duty to help people.

An Edmonton server needed 14 stitches after she was smashed in the face with a glass at a northside pub over the weekend, following an argument she said started over a face mask.Edmonton police said they were called to the pub at around 11 p.m. Saturday and are investigating the “violent assault.” Officers continue to investigate and said they are reviewing surveillance footage throughout the area in hopes of identifying the suspect.The altercation happened at the Crown & Anchor Pub & Grill and was captured on the pub’s surveillance camera.

Roads in and around Edmonton have been far less populated during the COVID-19 pandemic and that has led to more speeding.
