Good Morning Britain 's Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard interviewed Health Secretary Matt Hancock on Tuesday's show and demanded to know why a public enquiry into the government's handling of the pandemic is being delayed.
Mr Hancock claimed that he regretted that the country did not know that the virus could be passed on asymptomatically, but Susanna pointed out SAGE confirmed it was possible as early as February 2020.
When asked why Dominic Cummings described his department as a "smoking ruin", Mr Hancock replied: "He was describing how much work had to be undertaken to buy the PPE we had to buy." "He was describing it as a failure, Mr Hancock," replied Susanna, as the MP blamed the shortage in PPE due to the sudden surge in demand.
