'Scared to leave the house' - life in town where 1 in 11 people have had coronavirus

Some people living in Greater Manchester, one of the worst hit areas, are too "scared to leave the house" for fear of contracting coronavirus.

One in 19 people in Oldham have had the virus, and some areas in the town have been even harder hit. In Alexandra Park and Glodwick, one in 11 people infected since the start of the pandemic.

And the normally busy shopping areas were noticeably quiet when the Manchester Evening News visited. Ibrahim Aziz, who works at a laundrette-come-grocery store said: "It’s just not as busy as it used to be along here.

It’s been really quiet since coronavirus." The rate of infection in this area has started to fall in the last two weeks - with the latest Public Health data showing an infection rate of 414.1 per
