PHILADELPHIA - An attempted robbery at a variety store in Philadelphia’s Olney section required the help of a bomb squad early Wednesday morning.An employee told police that three men entered the store on the 4700 block of North 5th Street with what appeared to be a stick of dynamite.It was actually an illegal improvised explosive device, which the suspects placed inside the money slot of an ATM inside the store, according to authorities.After attempting the light the fuse, which did not burn, police say the suspects fled the store and never returned. MORE HEADLINES:The store and surrounding area was evacuated by police as a bomb squad removed the device from the ATM, and put it in a safe container to transport back to headquarters.The explosive device was found to be a six-inches long, and one inch in diameter with a three-inch fuze."It will do damage to an ATM and it will cause very, very severe injuries to someone that's holding it or standing near it," said Chief Small. "So this is a very, very dangerous device."Small went on to say they were "very, very lucky" that the device did not explode.

RICHMOND, Va. - A 19-year-old allegedly shot seven people, and killed two of them, police said, following a high school graduation ceremony Tuesday near Virginia Commonwealth University in downtown Richmond.The suspect tried to flee but was arrested and will be charged with two counts of second-degree murder, Interim Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards said in a nighttime news conference at which he confirmed the two fatalities.Five others were wounded by the gunfire outside the Virginia capital’s Altria Theater and in an adjacent park. "Despite not knowing how to swim, he ran into the waters to help his son out to safety."Srinivasa Murthy Jonnalagadda died after he tried to rescue his son from the water at Santa Cruz's Panther Beach on Memorial Day.A good Samaritan also went into the water to help, and was able to rescue the boy."He (Jonnalagadda) however was unfortunately dragged by the riptide into deeper waters and horrifically drowned as his family helplessly bore witness," loved ones wrote.First responders were able to pull Jonnalagadda from the water and on to the shore.

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Firefighters in New Jersey are battling another wildfire that sparked Tuesday as the state continue to navigate through a dangerous dry stretch. The New Jersey Forrest Fire Service said a blaze that broke around East Commodore Boulevard and Cedar Swamp Road in Jackson Township late Tuesday afternoon. At last check, officials said the fire had consumed about 15 acres of forest and was completely uncontained.The fire comes just days after a massive forest fire torched thousands of acres of woods in Burlington County, which prompted some evacuations and threatened nearby properties.New Jersey has endured a dangerous dry spell recently that fire officials say has helped provided ‘fuel’ for wildfires to run rampant.

RICHMOND, Va. - Seven people were shot, three of them with life-threatening injuries, after gunfire rang out near Virginia Commonwealth University in downtown Richmond following a high school graduation ceremony Tuesday, according to police and school district officials.Two suspects were taken into custody after the incident, Interim Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards said at a news conference.Edwards said officers inside a theater where the graduation was taking place heard the gunfire, went outside and saw multiple victims with gunshot wounds.Four had injuries that were not life-threatening, he said. PHILADELPHIA - Homelessness has long been a concern in Norristown, Pennsylvania now allegations that a public official threatened to bus the homeless out of town has turned it into a controversy.Under the shade of trees and tucked back from the Stony Creek, sits a gathering of tents and makeshift wooden homes where forty of Norristown’s homeless live. Among the encampment residents is 34-year-old Draya Lamacchia, she arrived a year ago when she lost her housing in Philadelphia. Lamacchia, a mother of three boys under 10-years-old who do not live with her, lives in a tent and fears losing what little she has by being forced out.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say a pair of thieves broke into a Philadelphia supermarket early Tuesday morning and tried to steal from a CoinStar machine, but they didn't get away with a dime. The break-in happened around 5 a.m. at the ACME on the 6600 block of Oxford Avenue in the city's Lawndale section, according to police. A witness told police they heard loud banging and saw two men running out of the store.

SAGINAW COUNTY, Mich. (FOX 2) - Michigan State Police have released dashcam video of a stolen car that was driven by a 10-year-old on I-75 last weekend.Video showed the troopers trying to pull over the 2017 Buick Encore that was reported stolen from a home on Hess Avenue in Saginaw County's Buena Vista on Saturday.In the video, the compact SUV swerves across multiple lanes of traffic with a trooper keeping its distance behind the car.

Media were invited Tuesday to view the wreckage left behind by a wildfire that swept through the Halifax-area communities of Tantallon and Hammonds Plains over the last week.The fire, which broke out on May 28, destroyed about 200 buildings, including 151 homes, and forced the evacuation of more than 16,400 people. PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are asking for the public's help to identify a man they say fired nearly 10 shots into an occupied building last month.The suspect was armed with a handgun when he opened fire on the 3300 block of Ridge Avenue in the early morning hours of May 31, according to authorities.Police say the building was occupied at the time, but have not said how many people were inside.

PHILADELPHIA - A chaotic Saturday night and early Sunday morning in Philadelphia and police are investigating the death of a teenager, shot and killed by Pennsylvania State troopers."Never in my life would I think anything like this would happen," girlfriend Reagan Hoking said.Hocking says her boyfriend, 18-year-old Anthony Allegrini, Jr., left for what he called a "Car Meet-up" around 10 Saturday night."He wasn’t answering. That’s not normal for him at all," Hocking stated.She says it wasn’t until she saw the aftermath on I-95 herself, near Penn’s Landing, early Sunday morning, along with Anthony’s parents, she realized he wasn’t ever coming home.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY - A Monday morning crash ended with a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.Traffic is now delayed after the crash on the eastbound side near Byberry Road in Upper Moreland Township around 5:30 a.m.Officials say a pedestrian was struck, but their condition, as well as their identity, are unknown at this time.MORE HEADLINES:Details of the crash have yet to be released.Only one lane of traffic remained open almost two hours after the crash.

Yellowstone National Park seem to be having difficulty keeping wildlife wild.In yet another instance of a parkgoer getting too friendly with an animal, an unidentified guest to the Wyoming park touched an elk calf and loaded it into their personal vehicle.The National Park Service included the incident — which occurred during Memorial Day weekend, the last weekend in May — in a press release urging tourists to keep their distance from Yellowstone’s wild animals.The authority said the elk calf was placed in a car and driven on U.S. Highway 191 in the park.
