Pfizer seeks advice on use of vaccine for adolescents

The manufacturers of the Pfizer BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine have submitted a request to the European Medicines Agency to expand the use of their vaccine to include adolescents aged 12-to-15-years old.

There are four separate Covid-19 vaccines licensed for use here. So far however, none are available for our 275,000 young people aged between 12-and-15-years old.

Now, Pfizer BioNTech, who have supplied 72 per cent of the vaccines so far administered in Ireland, are aiming to change that.

A phase-three clinical trial they conducted among 2,260 young people in that age group showed their vaccine to be 100% effective against the virus, that it produced robust antibody responses, and was well tolerated.
