Amnesty to surrender illegal weapons, soon
COLOMBO (News 1st) – Sri Lanka has decided to grant an amnesty period to surrender all illegally owned firearms.Public Security Secretary S. Hettiarachchi speaking to News 1st said that the President has granted approval to declare the amnesty, and the announcement will be made soon.He said that during the amnesty period those in possession of illegal firearms will be able to hand over them to the nearest police station in exchange for a cash voucher or gift.The Ministry of Defence will step in to facilitate the process, said the Public Security Secretary.
