Volusia man who intentionally ran over dog receives 24 months of probation

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A 30-year New Smyrna Beach man who intentionally ran over a dog with his pickup truck received 24 months of probation, according to court records.Court records show Robert Kayat entered an open plea on Monday to one count of cruelty to an animal and received a withholding adjudication.Kayat received 24 months of probation and 50 hours of community service.The State Attorney’s Office said Kayat was driving his pickup truck on Turnbull Bay Road and intentionally swerved to run over a dog.Prosecutors said Kayat said he was trying to scare the dog.Investigators said surveillance video shows Kayat swerving his pickup truck to the side of the road to run over the dog and this led to the death of the dog.

Police search for New Smyrna Beach man last seen weeks ago

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Authorities are asking for the community’s help locating a New Smyrna Beach man who hasn’t been seen in nearly six weeks.According to New Smyrna Beach police, a family member contacted authorities on June 24 saying she hadn’t seen or heard from Kevin Eugene Payne, 47, since May 28, when he was seen leaving his home in the 2600 block of Brookline Avenue.Investigators said Payne may be in the area of Daytona Beach Boardwalk and International Speedway Boulevard but they have not been able to confirm that.Police said foul play is not suspected in Payne’s disappearance at this time.Payne is 6 feet tall and weighs about 180 pounds, according to police.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – New Smyrna Beach City commissioners are expected to reconvene Wednesday for a special meeting to discuss a resolution regarding the use of face coverings within the area.The resolution, if adopted, would strongly encourage people to wear a mask or face-covering in public. VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A man arrested earlier this year was busted again on Thursday after he was caught staring at children in bathing suits at the beach while he was naked, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.Records show Scott Stewart, 62, was taken into custody in January as part of Operation Cyber Guardian, aimed at stopping the exploitation of children online.He was arrested on 21 counts of possession of child pornography.On Wednesday, deputies said they learned that Stewart was recently in contact with New Smyrna Beach Police at Grayce K.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – The New Smyrna Beach Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a man that has not been seen in weeks.According to a news release, Kevin Payne, 47, was reported missing Wednesday after those close to him had not spoken to him in six weeks.
