More people died of coronavirus at a Greater Manchester hospital in a single week than anywhere else in the country, new figures show.
Tameside Hospital, in Ashton-under-Lyme, has seen fatalities rise as the rate of new cases continues to increase every day despite tougher local lockdown restrictions.
In the seven days to September 10, 13 people died of Covid-19 at the Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (ICFT), up from five the previous week.
The deaths are mainly among older people with underlying health conditions, the Manchester Evening News reported Tameside is currently one of England's worst-hit boroughs.
