Omicron covid cases in the UK could hit one million by the end of December, Sajid Javid has warned. The UK Health Secretary revealed the stark figures as he updated MPs on stricter Plan B rules for England, including working from home and covid passports for entries to large venues which are already in place in Scotland.

The attempt to slow the spread of the Omicron variant triggered an immediate rebellion from Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross.
