QUAKERTOWN, Pa. - Darien, the horse rescued after being abandoned on the streets of Philadelphia, is now temporarily living on a ranch in Quakertown. The horse, which was named after Darien Street where he was found, was discovered wandering the Hunting Park neighborhood in May. A horse abandoned in the streets of Philadelphia is now in search of a new home after being rescued by ACCT.  (ACCT Philadelphia)Concerned residents notified authorities and staff from Philadelphia's Animal Care & Control team responded. At the time of his rescue, Darien was underweight and in need of extra care. FOX 29's Jenn Frederick visited the Last Chance Ranch in Quakertown, where he has been for five days and will stay for about three months. Ranch staff says the horse was about 200 pounds underweight when he arrived and they are on a reseeding schedule to get him on the right track. They also say he needs to see the veterinarians and providers for necessary services, including, a farrier for hoof adjustments and an equine dental technician to examine his teeth. Over the next few months, the ranch staff will work with Darien to help him regain muscle and stamina to get him ready for possible adoption by the end of summer. The ranch has received numerous donations to help Darien's recovery, but the ranch also says it needs support for its other animals.Donations are being accepted online here and the ranch is actively looking for volunteers.

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Russian Government said that it is grateful to all the state authorities of Sri Lanka that took part in the prompt settlement of the Aeroflot flight situation.The Commercial High Court of Colombo (Sri Lanka) reversed its own decision of June 2n of this year, on the detention of an Aeroflot flight at Bandaranaike International Airport.The Aeroflot A330 (SU289) departed for Moscow with crew members on Monday (6) evening, after the enjoining order was suspended by the Colombo Commercial High Court.The aircraft was grounded in Colombo following a court order obtained by Celestial Aviation Trading 10 Limited of Ireland, the owner of the aircraft, against Aeroflot in a Colombo court, over a lease dispute.Additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena appearing in court on Monday (6) said that the petitioners had obtained the enjoining order by concealing the facts, and mislead the courts.Colombo Commercial High Court Judge Harsha Sethunga had stated that no enjoining order had been issued to the government or the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited through this case when the case was taken up last Friday, 3rd June.The Additional Solicitor General questioned how a lawyer representing the petitioner had accompanied the court fiscal officer to the air traffic control room in the High Security Zone, Katunayake, and informed that an enjoining order had been issued preventing the departure of the Russian aircraft.He requested that the court pay attention to the actions of a lawyer and a fiscal officer in this regard when an enjoining order has not been issued to the air traffic controller.If these facts are true, the judge stated that his judicial power had been abused through this

COLOMBO (News 1st); A report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations & the World Food Program has revealed that Sri Lanka will experience a further deterioration of food security over the next few months.“The domestic agricultural production and rising international prices, compounded by the ongoing economic crisis, are expected to increase acute food shortages and price inflation which in turn are likely to result in a further deterioration of food security over the next months,” it added.The FAO & WFP said that the country’s current account deficit has widened while its foreign exchange reserves have dwindled, resulting in a dramatic currency devaluation, rising food prices and food shortages.The report in addition noted that the current economic crisis is increasingly affecting unemployment, and household incomes, complicating access to essential items.Rising costs of food, fuel and imported commodities combined with supply chain disruptions and a weakening exchange rate are expected to drive inflation higher in 2022, while stressing that availability of food in the outlook period is likely to decrease.The report went on to note that the harvest of the country’s main staple, “Maha” paddy crop, is estimated at a below-average level, mainly due to a ban on the import of chemical fertilizers and pesticides imposed by the authorities between April and November 2021.Therefore, Sri Lanka will increasingly rely on imports to cover domestic needs, but the ability to purchase imported supplies will be constrained by a further depreciation of the local currency.Reduced income and increased food prices affect households’ ability to afford sufficient and adequate food, said the report.Recommendations:The

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police said that 2,528 people were arrested so far with regard to the 9th May Black Monday violence that broke out in Colombo.During the past 24 hours, a total of 49 people were arrested and produced in court.39 of them were granted bail, and 12 others have been remanded, said Sri Lanka Police, adding that a total of 856 acts of violence were reported so far.A normal Monday morning on the 9th of May 2022, turned into a scene of chaos after pro-government supporters attacked the MynaGoGama protest site near Temple Trees following a meeting chaired by then-Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.The meeting at Temple Trees was organized by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Local Government Members Forum and saw hundreds in attendance.Following this meeting, the pro-government supporters attacked the MynaGoGama protest site near Temple Trees and dismantled the camp.Thereafter, they moved to the main protest site in Galle Face known as GotaGoGama and destroyed several tents, and assaulted peaceful protestors.Sri Lanka Police, the Riot Police, Sri Lanka Army, and other law enforcement agencies were called in to control the situation and Sri Lanka Police eventually imposed an island-wide curfew to control the unrest.Following investigations, the MPs and several other local government members were arrested for their involvement in the attacks on the protest sites.
