PHILADELPHIA - Several investigations are underway after Philadelphia police say three separate shootings leave four people injured, two critically, as the weekend begins.The first shooting unfolded just minutes after midnight Saturday on the 2000 block of South 9th Street in South Philadelphia. Police say a 34-year-old man was shot twice and transported to a local hospital in critical condition.Less than two hours later, a 61-year-old man was shot in the leg on the 2700 block of Bonsall Street around 1:40 a.m.

COLOMBO (News 1st) – The body of a 24 year old man was recovered from under the debris on Saturday (15), trapped after a mound of earth collapsed onto a house in  Mainnoluwa, Warakapola.The body of his 48 year old mother was also recovered on Saturday (15) morning.The Police Special Task Force and Sri Lanka Army on Friday (14) launched a search operation to locate three people who were trapped under the mound of earth.Security forces and local residents managed to locate the father and admit him to the hospital.The Disaster Management Centre of the Kegalle District said the mound had collapsed onto the house following heavy showers on Friday afternoon.

PHILADELPHIA - Leonard Castellanos says it has been wonderful to watch his grandson Nick Castellanos play for the Philadelphia Phillies. That's what he told FOX 29's Chris O'Connell at Truist Park in Georgia ahead of the National League Division Series second game, where the Phillies took on the Atlanta Braves. As Chris navigated the stadium in the rain, he encountered Leonard, a lone Phillies fan in a sea of Braves gear. Leonard then identified himself as the relative of a player before detailing what the experience has been like watching his grandson. "He's one of several grandkids, but at this level, this is unbelievable," he said.

COATESVILLE, Pa. - Officials with Coatesville Area School District announced the school has received numerous threats within the last week.According to authorities, the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, as well as Caln Township police officers are actively investigating at least four different threats to the school.On October 13, the school was put on lockdown after three separate threats regarding weapons were received by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office and then passed on to the school.RELATED COVERAGE:The Chester County Sheriff’s Department searched the school for weapons, but found nothing and school was dismissed.Another threat was received by the school Friday, forcing administrators to cancel school for the day. PHILADELPHIA - An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection with chaos that erupted on the streets of Old City earlier this month. On October 2, chaos unfolded near the FOX 29 studio at the intersection of Market and 4th Streets. Around 10 p.m. crowds began to gather, blocking traffic in all directions as hundreds of people formed a large circle to watch drag racing, car tricks and fireworks that were set off. The Philadelphia Police Department says officers assigned to a detail responded to Broad and York Streets around 12:30 a.m.

PHILADELPHIA - As the Philadelphia Phillies and their fans are celebrating the team's first playoff appearance since 2011, they are also mourning the loss of one of their Minor League players. Corey Phelan joined the Phillies organization in August 2020 and was expected to move up through the Minor League quickly. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2021 and he revealed in May that his diagnosis evolved into Leukemia. A statement from the team was released on the Phillies Player Development Twitter account, saying, "The Phillies family is extremely saddened by the tragic passing of Corey Phelan. PHILADELPHIA - Four people are recovering after they were shot in Kensington early Friday morning, according to authorities. Officials say officers responded to the 800 block of East Willard Street for a report of a person with a gun. Responding officers found four gunshot victims, according to police. Authorities say a 30-year-old man was shot in the ankle, a 43-year-old man was shot in the left foot, an 18-year-old female suffered a gunshot wound to the foot and a graze wound to the back, and a 29-year-old man was shot in the hand and ankle. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAll four victims were transported to Temple University Hospital, where they are in stable condition, according to police. Officials say there have been no arrests and that the investigation is ongoing with the department's Shooting Investigation Group.

PHILADELPHIA - Wawa, a Philadelphia staple, announced Thursday it will close two Center City locations due to "continued safety and security challenges and business factors.""We are very sorry we can’t be there for our friends and neighbors at these two locations, but we continue to serve the community from our other nearby stores and our commitment to the greater region remains strong," a statement read in part. LOGAN - Philadelphia police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old man by three men in Philadelphia's Logan neighborhood.Officials say the shooting happened Thursday afternoon, around 1:15, on the 4700 block of North Marvine Street.Responding officers found the 34-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department have released surveillance video and asked for the public's help to identify two suspects wanted in connection with a shooting in Germantown. Police say the shooting occurred at the intersection of Wayne Avenue and Logan Street on Wednesday around 1:48 a.m. According to authorities, two men dressed in all black got out of a silver sedan believed to be a Nissan maxima before opening fire on a man as he climbed into his vehicle. Police say the suspects then got back into the car and fled south on Wayne Avenue towards Abbottsford Avenue. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe victim was shot two times in the back and was transported to Einstein Hospital by officers. Police have not released any additional information about the victim's status. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Philadelphia police at 215-686-8477 or submit an anonymous tip online.

PHILADELPHIA - A third person has been arrested and charged in connection with chaos that erupted at an unsanctioned car rally in Wildwood. Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Wildwood Police Department Chief Robert Regalbuto announced the arrest of 18-year-old Zion Diaz of Hammonton, New Jersey, on Wednesday. Officials say on Wednesday morning, detectives executed a search warrant at Diaz' residence and arrested him without incident. According to the Prosecutor's Office, he was charged with 4th-degree riot and released on a summons. Sutherland says Diaz was identified as a person who instructed others at the unsanctioned rally to block intersections, do burnouts and block police cars from responding to emergency calls when chaos erupted in the streets of Wildwood on September 24. After the chaos, there were several reports of car crashes, injuries and damaged storefronts. One crash turned deadly, claiming the lives of 18-year-old Linday Weakland and 34-year-old Timothy Ogden, according to officials. Chaos erupted in Wildwood Crest Saturday night as an unsanctioned car rally took over the streets and, ultimately, killed two people.Police say Gerald J.

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting that left a 25-year-old man in critical condition.Officials say the shooting happened on the 1100 block of West Nevada Street, just after 5 o’clock early Wednesday evening, in North Philadelphia.The man was found in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including in his torso and in the back.Police rushed him to Temple University Hospital where he was placed in critical condition.An investigation into the shooting is active, though police say no weapon has been found and no arrests have been made.___Tips can be submitted by calling 215-686-TIPS (8477) or texting PPD TIP (773847). PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police officials say two separate schools within the School District of Philadelphia were placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon, due to issues with firearms.According to authorities, Richard Allen Charter School, in Southwest Philadelphia, was placed on a lockdown around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, after a 14-year-old student brought a firearm into the building.The weapon was found and the student was arrested, while K-9 was brought to sweep the building. The lockdown was lifted at 1:45.
