Nova Scotia has activated its emergency alert system as police respond to multiple unconfirmed reports of shots fired in the HRM.

The alert said police are on scene in a wooded area between Haliburton Hills and the Highland Park Heights Suburb in Hammonds Plains as well as in the Omega Court area of Hubley, N.S.

Global News has confirmed that several police vehicles are on Leeward Avenue in Hammonds Plains. RCMP are asking residents to call 911 if they see anything suspicious but details are limited at this time.

The Nova Scotia Health Authority says it has placed all of its sites in its central zone on lockdown as a result of the ongoing incidents.
