In the UK, leaked medical documents outline plans for mass testing which could see millions of tests carried out daily at a cost of around £100 billion.
The plans, which have been seen by the British Medical Journal, suggest that "Operation Moonshot" project could mean that Christmas parties may be allowed to go ahead.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson believes the scheme could help sport and entertainment venues reopen fully and allow people to socially mix in large groups again with on-the-day tests.
