Govt asks suppliers to disclose country of origin for all state purchases

NEW DELHI : The government on Tuesday said all suppliers to state agencies have to compulsorily disclose their products’ country of origin and has made provisions for public entities to shortlist suppliers based on the degree of local content used in the products.The commerce ministry said in a statement that all suppliers enlisted in the government e-marketplace (GeM)--an online procurement platform for all public entities, departments and state-run companies--have to disclose the country of origin, failing which they will be delisted. This disclosure is compulsory for new suppliers too.

Modi govt starts promoting Make in India goods on government procurement portal

NEW DELHI : In tune with the agenda of 'AatmaNirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India), the Narendra Modi government has started promoting 'Make in India' products on government procurement portal Government e-Marketplace (GEM).Launched in 2016, GeM portal is used for online purchases of goods and services by all the central government ministries and departments. Currently, government departments, ministries, public sector units, state governments, and Central Armed Police Forces are allowed to carry out transactions through this portal.
