Police: Motorcycle driver dies after losing control of bike on Pennsylvania highway exit ramp

BENSALEM, Pa. - Authorities say a motorcycle driver was killed Wednesday night in Bucks County when he lost control of his bike and slammed into a concrete barrier. Pennsylvania State Police reported Anthony Dworinitski, 35, died when he crashed his Suzuki motorcycle on the I-95 southbound exit ramp near Cornwells Hights Park and Ride just before 9 p.m. An investigation concluded that Dworinitski lost control of his motorcycle and struck a concrete barrier on the shoulder of the exit ramp, resulting in fatal injuries. Emergency medical responders from Bensalem pronounced Dworinitski, a Bristol resident, dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the deadly motorcycle crash.

MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Officials in Bucks County say they have started spraying for mosquitos in areas where colonies of West Nile Virus-carrying insects have been found."If we have an area where we have positive mosquitoes in a number it might spill over to the human population we set up spraying in those areas," Bucks County Environmental Health Director Phil Smith said. Most people infected with the virus do not feel sick, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About one in five people who are infected develop a fever and other flu-like symptoms, and about one out of 150 infected people develop a serious, sometimes fatal, illness, according to the agency."If you’re over 50 with a suppressed immune system and go on a full-blown West Nile virus with meningococcal symptoms with, extremely high fever, you could require hospitalization," Smith warned. The Pennsylvania Health Department has reported four West Nile virus cases, and officials says that number can multiply quickly as mosquitoes breed and potentially carry the virus to humans.

Lauren Elizabeth Landgrebe, 50, was sentenced to time in county jail in connection with the death of an infant in her care. UPPER SOUTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A Bucks County woman has been sentenced to time in county jail in connection with the death of a baby at an unlicensed daycare. According to the Bucks County District Attorney's Office, 50-year-old Lauren Elizabeth Landgrebe of Upper Southampton Township was sentenced to one to two years in county prison followed by 10 years of probation for the death of an 11-month-old girl at an illegal daycare facility run out of her home. Landgrebe was also ordered to have no contact with the family of the victim and she is not allowed to provide childcare or babysit, according to authorities. On August 27, 2019, the baby died from asphyxiation by strangulation after being placed in a car seat incorrectly and left unattended for several hours, officials say. Investigators say Landgrebe placed the baby in the car seat around 1:00 p.m. and then went to lay by the pool at her home.

Firefighters rescue man trapped on roof of Bucks County condo fire

NEWTOWN, Pa. - Firefighter in Bucks County rescued a man from the roof of a burning condo fire that erupted Fourth of July morning.Emergency crews responded to Nathan Court in the Newtown Gate Townhomes community for reports of a two-story fire at an end unit. Firefighters from the Newtown Fire Department said when they arrived they found a man standing on the roof of the burning home. Deputy Chief Liz Ellis told reporters the firefighters quickly stretched a ladder to the roof and helped guide the man down. He was brought to a local hospital with burns, FOX 29's Joann Pileggi reports. A neighbor who witnessed the Independence Day blaze first thought the sirens were from a local parade, then smelled the smoke. "I was actually hearing sirens going on like nearby I thought they were passing by the highway maybe Fourth of July related but then my Ring door alarm said there’s a fire, and it gave my street name, and then I smelled smoke and ran outside," Devrim Eren said.The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Darien, the horse found abandoned in Philadelphia, temporarily living at Bucks County ranch

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. - Darien, the horse rescued after being abandoned on the streets of Philadelphia, is now temporarily living on a ranch in Quakertown. The horse, which was named after Darien Street where he was found, was discovered wandering the Hunting Park neighborhood in May. A horse abandoned in the streets of Philadelphia is now in search of a new home after being rescued by ACCT. (ACCT Philadelphia)Concerned residents notified authorities and staff from Philadelphia's Animal Care & Control team responded. At the time of his rescue, Darien was underweight and in need of extra care. FOX 29's Jenn Frederick visited the Last Chance Ranch in Quakertown, where he has been for five days and will stay for about three months. Ranch staff says the horse was about 200 pounds underweight when he arrived and they are on a reseeding schedule to get him on the right track. They also say he needs to see the veterinarians and providers for necessary services, including, a farrier for hoof adjustments and an equine dental technician to examine his teeth. Over the next few months, the ranch staff will work with Darien to help him regain muscle and stamina to get him ready for possible adoption by the end of summer. The ranch has received numerous donations to help Darien's recovery, but the ranch also says it needs support for its other animals.Donations are being accepted online here and the ranch is actively looking for volunteers.

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - Bucks County officials announce an arrest of a 56-year-old man in connection with in an April 1991 cold case homicide.Robert Atkins, a 56-year-old man from Falls Township, in Bucks County, voluntarily turned himself in to Bucks County officials, after a "tireless" investigation by Bucks County Detectives and a recommendation by a grand jury.Atkins is charged with one count of first degree murder, one count of second degree murder, two counts of robbery and seven counts of arson in a case dating to 1991.Officials stated the grand jury concluded that Atkins murdered 35-year-old Joy Hibbs on April 19, 1991, at her home in Croydon. She had been stabbed repeatedly and was likely asphyxiated. Bucks County Weights and Measures inspects over 160 local gas stations at least once a year to make sure the price on the pump matches the cost on the marquee board. John Devito, a veteran member of Weights and Measures, told FOX 29 that pumps are allowed to be off by 6-cubic inches; which is about the size of a bathroom cup. "I have to get it to zero," Devito said. 'Con woman' sentenced for stealing $6,500 from her grandmother in Bucks County

BUCKS COUNTY, Pa. - A woman will spend one to two years in prison after stealing thousands from her 89-year-old grandmother.Rebecca Scott, 43, pled guilty to third-degree felonies of financial exploitation of an older adult or care-dependent person, theft by unlawful taking and access device fraud and forger.In court Wednesday, Scott admitted she stole and cashed her grandmother's check for $6,500, and ordered a box of checks to her home in Bensalem.She also said she attempted to take another $10,000 from her grandmother by altering another one of her checks, according to the Bucks County DA's Office.A judge, who described Scott as a "con woman," sentenced her to one year less a day to two years less a day in county jail, plus five years of probation. She was also ordered to repay all the money she stole with payments of $200 a month. PHILADELPHIA - The former Philadelphia police officer who fatally shot 12-year-old TJ Siderio in South Philadelphia has been charged with murder, District Attorney Larry Krasner announced Monday. According to Krasner, former officer Edsaul Mendoza is facing multiple charges including first-degree murder, third-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting. Mendoza is in custody and being held without bail, Krasner said during a Monday morning press conference, adding that no bail is normal for the seriousness of the charges. Police say four plainclothes officers in an unmarked car were patrolling the area near the 1700 block of Barbara Street around 7 p.m. on March 1 when they spotted two juveniles on bikes.
