Latest restrictions aimed at stemming the spread of the Omicron Covid-19 variant in Ireland come into effect today. The measures will see earlier closing times imposed on the hospitality sector from this evening, as well as changes to requirements for people deemed a close contact of a Covid-19 case.
The restrictions, announced by the Taoiseach last Friday evening, came into effect at midnight last night. Micheál Martin said they will help the country get to the other side of the current wave as safely as possible.
From 8pm this evening, all restaurants, bars and cafés, excluding takeaway or delivery services, will be required to shut their doors.
