Kevin Bridges has opened up about his mental health battle and admits he even once considered quitting stand up. The Glasgow born comedian revealed he sought out the help of a therapist to help him cope with the pressures of fame.

The 35-year-old's book, The Black Dog, draws heavily on his own life, and a period seven years ago when he “considered quitting stand-up because I had stopped enjoying it”.Bridges began his comedy career in 2004 and went onto reach the final of Channel 4’s So You Think You’re Funny when he was just 18.

However, his profile rose rapidly and in 2015, he sold 500,000 tickets for a UK tour and his third DVD sold 30,000 copies in a week, outselling established acts such as Michael McIntyre and John Bishop.

Despite his successful career, he didn't feel feel happy as he told the Edinburgh International Book Festival, but the experience proved invaluable when he began to write during the lockdown. “[I thought] why don’t I draw on my experience of being someone who’s famous in the world of showbiz, who is experiencing burnout,” Bridges said.“After my 2015 tour I considered quitting stand-up because I had stopped enjoying it.
