Hundreds of cars were told to turn around when they arrived at a beach today while police gave out 20 Covid-related fines. People were found to have travelled for miles to get to Formby Beach in Merseyside on Sunday (February 28) in a blatant breach of coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
Police found visitors to have come as far as Stockport, Manchester and even Leeds to get to the beauty spot, the latter of which is around 85 miles away.
Streets around the popular beach were gridlocked with traffic and the car park filled up in the morning, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Officers turned over a hundred cars away to were trying to pay a visit. Around 20 people were issued with fines of £200 in the form of fixed penalty notices for breaching
