Pfizer shot offers nearly no protection against infection in 5- to 11-year-olds
NEW YORK - A new study shows that Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine is less effective in 5- to 11-year-old children compared to its efficacy in older kids and adults. This new data could be concerning to a lot of parents, especially as we're seeing mask mandates lifted across the country and in the New York area.New York state health officials collected this large set of data that finds the Pfizer vaccine still prevents hospitalization in children 5 to 11 but offers virtually no protection against infection, even just a month after full immunization.

TVDSB lifting vaccine mandates for community use of school facilities
Thames Valley District School Board say COVID-19 vaccination mandates will be lifted on Thursday when it comes to the use of facilities during non-school hours by not-for-profit community groups. It comes as the province lifted proof-of-vaccination and capacity rules Tuesday, along with most other COVID-19 public health measures, save for mask mandates. The TVDSB says permit holders may choose to continue requiring proof of vaccination after Thursday.Face masks must also continue to be worn on school premises, with requirements followed dependent on the activity.“Additionally, up to two nonparticipants for each participant, such as spectators, will be allowed inside the school facility during the hours of rental,” the board said in a statement. London Ont., concert venues and restaurants hopeful COVID-19 restrictions will stay loosened As of Tuesday, mask mandates remain in place across Ontario, but businesses like gyms, cinemas and restaurants no longer need to check patrons’ vaccination status.Remaining capacity limits have also been lifted for venues such as nightclubs, sporting arenas and concert halls.

Western-involved study shows positive impacts of physical activity on COVID outcomes
British Journal of Sports Medicine, looked at physical activity data involving more than 65,000 adult patients from South Africa who had COVID-19 between March 2020 and June 2021.Researchers found that patients with moderate to high levels of physical activity — 60 to 149 minutes per week, and 150-plus minutes per week, respectively — were associated with lower rates of hospitalization, ICU admission, ventilation, and death compared to those with low activity levels, defined as zero to 59 minutes per week. Molotov cocktails on the menu: Ukrainian brewery switches from beer to bombs amid Russian invasion
Molotov cocktails made at a brewery in Lviv, Ukraine, on March 1, 2022. Simmons not practicing, making game in Philadelphia unlikely
Ben Simmons #10 of the Brooklyn Nets and Kevin Durant #7 of the Brooklyn Nets look on against the Boston Celtics during the first half at Barclays Center on February 24, 2022 in New York City. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that NEW YORK - Brooklyn coach Steve Nash doesn't expect Ben Simmons to practice this week, making it unlikely the former 76ers star will be ready to play when the Nets visit Philadelphia on March 10.The Nets are hopeful Kevin Durant will return from his left knee sprain later this week, but it appears Simmons is still a ways off after not playing at all this season. His back began bothering him as he tried to increase his workload, and Nash said Monday before the Nets played Toronto that Simmons is unlikely to practice this week.Acquired in the trade deadline deal that sent James Harden to the 76ers, Simmons said during his introductory press conference in Brooklyn that he hoped to be ready for the game in Philadelphia.
