On Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, Philadelphia police arrested 30-year-old Barbara Corbo on the 800 block of Kelly Drive in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania.

Corbo taught at Mercy Career & Technical High School in Philadelphia. She was hired in August 2021 to teach English to eleventh graders and Social Studies to tenth graders.

She now faces numerous charges, including institutional sexual assault, contact with a minor, and related offenses. The high school released a statement on Wednesday saying Corbo was terminated in January after a student reported the former teacher "engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with the student at a location outside of school." "As a Catholic school in the Mercy tradition, the welfare of all the young people entrusted in our care remains our focus," school officials said in a letter to the parents. "We will employ our own school counseling staff and outside resources to respond to the needs and concerns of all students.

COCOA BEACH, Fla. - A Florida elementary school teacher has been arrested after police say she is accused of hitting a female student with autism in the face. Cocoa Beach police arrested Candice Williamson Bartell, 53, on Tuesday at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School.According to the arrest affidavit, the incident was caught on video, but Bartell told detectives it was a ‘playful tap’ to show affection when a student was happy.MORE NEWS: Police say suspect confessed to stabbing death of Daytona Beach coupleThe report states that Bartell is seen on video trying to open a door to a classroom with the student close behind her. Washington, Oregon to end mask mandates in schools, most public places on March 12

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Washington and Oregon will drop masking requirements for schools and most public places on March 12, the states jointly announced."With declining case rates and hospitalizations across the West, California, Oregon and Washington are moving together to update their masking guidance," the governors said in a statement. There are more than 7.5 million school-age children across the three states.The new guidance will make face coverings a recommendation rather than a requirement at most indoor places in California starting March 1 and at schools on March 12, regardless of vaccination status.
