NEWARK, Del. - The Delaware State Police are investigating a carjacking that they say took place in a gym parking lot in New Castle County Sunday afternoon. Just before 3 p.m., police say a 31-year-old woman was carjacked as she was parking her Dodge Durango in the Edge Fitness parking lot located at 2800 Fashion Center Boulevard in Newark. Authorities say as the victim exited her vehicle with her car keys in hand, an unknown suspect approached her and attempted to grab her keys. After a physical struggle, police say the suspect was able to gain control of the keys after shoving the victim to the ground. The first suspect then entered the driver's seat of the Durango before a second suspect entered the front passenger seat.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities are searching for two men who they say escaped from a Philadelphia prison through a hole in a perimeter fence. The Philadelphia Police Department said the 18-year-old and 28-year-old men escaped from a prison on the 8300 of State Road Sunday around 8 p.m. Investigators say their escape through a hole in a fence was captured on surveillance video, though no pictures were provided. Authorities have not said why the escaped prisoners were incarcerated. 

HOPEWELL, N.J. - A New Jersey community gathered Monday to mourn the loss of a local officer who died two months after he was shot during a struggle with an armed suspect. Deptford Township Police Officer Ryan Shisler, 27, died Sunday from injuries he sustained during a pedestrian stop turned shooting on Mar. 10.

PHILADELPHIA - A mistrial has been declared due to a hung jury in the case against Richard Nicoletti, a former Philadelphia SWAT officer who was captured on video pepper spraying protesters from close range during the 2020 George Floyd unrest. Nicoletti faced charges of possession of an instrument of crime, three counts of simple assault, reckless endangerment, and official oppression. The Philadelphia District Attorney's office says they plan to retry the case. A video of Nicoletti dressed in riot gear approaching three protesters kneeling on Interstate 676 on June 1, 2020, pulling down at least one protester's mask or goggles, then pepper-spraying them, was circulated widely on social media and was included in several news stories about the national police response to demonstrations.The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office alleged that Nicoletti assaulted the protesters nearly three years ago. His defense, meanwhile, claimed the disgraced officer was doing his job. Closing arguments were made Thursday, after which the jury began deliberations.
