A Philadelphia councilmember is now working to get the masks banned in the city.  PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia Councilmember has introduced legislation banning ski masks throughout the city. Councilmember Anthony Phillips, who represents the 9th District, introduced the legislation on Thursday. According to officials, if it passes, the bill would prohibit people from wearing skis masks in schools, recreation centers, daycares, parks, city-owned buildings, or on any mode of transportation. If approved, breaking the ban would result in a $250 penalty. The bill would also impose a $2,000 fine for those wearing ski masks while committing a crime, officials say. Exceptions will be made for various circumstances, including wearing ski masks or balaclavas for traditional holiday costumes, religious holidays, employment, theatrical productions, or winter sports. "Neighbors consistently ask me when Council will ban ski masks and, while going out in the community to get feedback on this issue, the common thread was that residents want a ban," Phillips said.

PHILADELPHIA - A rideshare driver on route taking a passenger through North Philadelphia was shot and severely injured on Wednesday night, authorities say. According to police, the incident happened just after 11 p.m. in the area of Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue. Officials say when officers arrived on scene, they saw the vehicle, a Honda CRV, that jumped the curb and struck a utility pole. A 34-year-old driver was slumped in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound to the head, law enforcement officials said. Police investigate scene of crash involving rideshare driver shot in the area of Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue.  MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe driver was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he is in extremely critical condition, according to authorities. Chief Inspector Scott Small told FOX 29 the rideshare driver was going westbound on the 1300 block of Lehigh Avenue after picking up an 18-year-old female passenger a few blocks away. Officials say the passenger told detectives she heard about five or six gunshots before the vehicle's windshield broke, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, jump the curb and crash. According to investigators, at least one bullet went through the driver's rear headrest. Small says the passenger is extremely lucky she was not also struck by gunfire. Police say six spent shell casings were discovered on scene. Investigators do not know if the rideshare driver was targeted or was struck by stray gunfire, Small says. Police are investigating after a rideshare driver was shot while driving as passenger in North Philadelphia, authorities say.

(Comunidad de Madrid - Handout/Getty Images)Six people have been charged for allegedly stealing and selling body parts from both the Harvard Medical School’s mortuary and another mortuary in Arkansas, according to a Department of Justice news release. "Today, the United States Attorney has announced charges against several individuals who used the United States mail to ship stolen human remains," said Christopher Nielsen, the inspector in charge of the Philadelphia Division of the Postal Inspection Service.

PHILADELPHIA - Medical examiners in Philadelphia have confirmed the identity of a man who authorities say was behind the wheel of a gasoline tanker that crashed and exploded, causing part of I-95 to collapse.The Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office said Nathan Moody died of blunt trauma to the head and inhalation and thermal injuries. The manner of death has been ruled an accident, officials said.Moody, 53, was previously identified by family members who described him as a hardworking father with more that 10-years of trucking experience. "He wanted to raise his girl to know what a good Dad was, to know what a hardworking Dad was," said Issac Moody.

PHILADELPHIA - Commuters in Philadelphia are adapting to new road closures and detours in the wake of the I-95 collapse that officials say will take months to repair. Some of the re-routed traffic, however, is being funneled onto tight streets in North Philadelphia that aren't equipped to handle the influx of traffic. A viewer photo given to FOX 29 News shows the aftermath of a tractor trailer coming down the tight confines of Westmoreland Street and tearing down a cable line. The traffic chaos has caused neighbors in Bridesburg to take matters into their own hands by placing cones and caution tape on the roadway to help direct traffic. "The people on the block here are trying to help people go the right way, because if they go all the way down towards Aramingo they may have to turn around and go towards traffic," Scott Simon said. "In order to keep them from going down that way, we have the cones which is forcing them to go the right way." Some of the road closures, according to neighbors, have caused drivers to become lost in unfamiliar parts of town which has raised safety concerns for residents with children. RELATED COVERAGE"It’s been really crazy because the street is never this busy, you got a lot of kids that live on this street," Joe Spada said.

Alabama’s Orange Beach were suddenly visited by a group of hammerhead sharks over the weekend. A video recorded by Meredith Perry on June 10, showed about five hammerhead sharks swimming uncomfortably close to boaters, even prompting a few people who were wading in the shallow waters to jump back onto their boats. Perry also managed to get a photo of her fiance, Paul Hubble, standing in the water, attempting to get a closer look at the sharks. "At first it was a ‘hurry and get kids safe, etc.,’ but then I realized they were hammerheads and thought it would be cool to see how close I could get," Hubble told FOX TV Stations. Hubble estimated there were about six total swimming around the boats that day and the sharks averaged about 6 to 8 feet long. Paul Hubble wading in the water as hammerhead sharks swim nearby. (Meredith Perry)"It probably wasn’t the smartest but hammerheads are less aggressive towards humans than others," Hubble claimed, "and I thought it would be a once in a lifetime chance to be close." Sharks typically stay away from this busy area, according to Hubble.

PHILADELPHIA - A group of STEM Ambassadors at Imhotep Institute Charter High School in East Germantown are back from an international service trip.Sixteen students traveled to Ghana and used their STEM education to deliver and install water filtration systems among other services and resources."For them to be able to see clear water it just made me happy," 17-year-old student Ariel Headen said. "I’ve never helped somebody that much to where I changed their lives, we’re really life changers, we’re really helping people."The Philadelphia Eagles helped sponsor the service-oriented trip and even provided a crew to film and document the entire experience.Students said people living in a remote island village were getting their water from a swamp.
