WASHINGTON - The Biden administration is asking the Supreme Court to block the Texas law banning most abortions, while the fight over the measure's constitutionality plays out in the courts.The law has been in effect since September, aside from a district court-ordered pause that lasted just 48 hours, and bans abortions once cardiac activity is detected, usually around six weeks and before some women know they are pregnant.The Justice Department asked the high court Monday to lift an order imposed by a conservative federal appeals court that has allowed Texas to continue enforcing the nation's strictest curbs on abortion through a novel law that was written to make it hard to challenge in the federal court system.

PHILADELPHIA - A former SEPTA Revenue Agent accused of slugging a rider at Frankford Transportation Center in late September has been fired by SEPTA and is now facing assault charges.Byron McCaskill, who was let go by SEPTA after he was allegedly captured on video punching out a rider, has been charged with simple assault, official oppression, harassment and disorderly conduct, according to court documents.Surveillance video obtained by FOX 29 in late September allegedly shows McCaskill take two jabs at the victim, striking him at least once in the face, in the concourse of the busy SEPTA stop located on the 5200 block of Frankford Avenue. He was placed on "administrative duty" while SEPTA investigated the incident.

ATLANTA - Atlanta police are searching for a gunman who fired multiple shots at officers in Midtown early Wednesday morning.Police have set up a large perimeter in the Atlanta neighborhood as the search continues for the suspect. Speaking to FOX 5, an officer described the search as an "active shooter-type situation." At last report, investigators believe the shooter is contained but not in custody and is inside a high rise on West Peachtree Street. According to officials, the shots were fired close to the 1100 block of West Peachtree Street around 4 a.m.
