Covid update: India records lowest single-day rise in cases in 3 months

India on Tuesday recorded a decline in daily Covid-19 cases for the third consecutive day with the country logging 4,417 new infection in 24 hours, according to Union Health Ministry data.

Yesterday, the country reported 5,910 cases. The actives cases in the country has further declined to 52,336. A total number of recoveries in the country stands at 43,886,496.

The recovery rate currently stands at 98.69 per cent. The weekly case positivity rate came out to be 2.06 per cent, while the daily positivity rate is 1.20 per cent.

As many as 367,490 COVID samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 88.77 crore samples have been tested in the country so far.

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has declared the 19th of September 2022 a Day of Mourning in view of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.President Ranil Wickremesinghe issued the directive to the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs on Friday (9).The President's Media Division also noted that the National Flag will be flown at half-mast until the 19th of September 2022.President Ranil Wickremesinghe said he was saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. "She was a symbol of stability and endurance, and she will be greatly missed. My heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the UK and the Commonwealth" tweeted the President.Queen Elizabeth II, the UK's longest-serving monarch, died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.She died peacefully on Thursday (8) afternoon at her Scottish estate, where she had spent much of the summer.The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.Her son King Charles III said the death of his beloved mother was a "moment of great sadness" for him and his family and that her loss would be "deeply felt" around the world.He said: "We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother."I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world."During the coming period of mourning, he said he and his family would be "comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was so widely held".The King and his wife, Camilla, now Queen Consort, will return to London on Friday, Buckingham Palace said.
