Covid-19 update: India sees mild dip in daily cases, logs 6,594 fresh Covid-19 cases in 24 hours

India on Monday recorded 12,781 fresh COVID-19 cases that pushed its infection tally to 43,309,473 while the number of active cases increased to 76,700, according to Union health ministry data. The death toll climbed to 5,24,873with 15 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 0.18 per cent of the total infections.

The Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant is as much as 50% less likely to cause long COVID than its predecessor Delta variant, according to a letter published yesterday in The Lancet.

The number of people being admitted to hospital with Covid-19 in Greater Manchester has almost doubled in the space of a week. There were 251 Covid-related hospital admissions in the week ending June 12, compared to 133 the week before - an increase of 89pc.
