NEW DELHI: India has reported a spike in number of daily covid deaths, with nearly 67 fatalities in the last 24 hours, and 21,411 fresh infections.
The country’s active caseload currently stands at 1,50,100, pushing up total number of covid cases to over 4.38 crore since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.
Death toll stands at 5,25,997. States reporting the most of the active covid cases are: Andhra Pradesh (2,923), Assam (5,508), Bihar (2,254), Chhattisgarh (3,778), Delhi (2,327), Gujarat (5,279), Haryana (2,415), Himachal Pradesh (3,660), Jammu & Kashmir (2,411), Jharkhand (1,172), Karnataka (8,488), Kerala (20,896), Madhya Pradesh (1,435), Maharashtra (14,579), Odisha (6,269), Punjab (4,880), Tamil Nadu (16,153), Telangana (4,686), Uttar Pradesh (2,710) and West Bengal (26,727).
Earlier this week, the central government had reviewed the covid-19 situation in 115 districts across nine states showing an upsurge in cases and flagged concerns regarding low levels of testing and vaccination.
