PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say a man was shot by police after he fired several times at officers Friday night in North Philadelphia. The shooting happened just before 6 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police have released video of a shooting that injured a man in Logan as they search for three suspects. On Oct. 4, officers with the 35th District responded to reports of a shooting near Broad and Windrim streets. When officers arrived on scene they found a 23-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his right arm.

PHILADELPHIA - The mother of Nicolas Elizalde is speaking out after her son was gunned down in a shooting that also injured four others as he finished football practice at Roxborough High School. Nicolas’ mother, Meredith, stopped by Good Day Philadelphia Friday morning, - a day before what would have been his 15th birthday - to remember her son and share a message to those responsible for his death.Elizalde, a student at Saul High school, was among of group of teens who were leaving a joint football scrimmage when five gunmen emerged from a car and unleashed more than 60 shots. Nicolas was struck and succumbed to his injuries. The other four victims are expected to physically recover. "He is one of a kind. He’s never said an unkind word.

(Reuters) – Japan has not yet reached an agreement to co-chair a debt summit with Sri Lanka's creditors, a government official in Tokyo said on Thursday, as the island nation struggles to find a way out of a crippling economic crisis.Sri Lanka has to renegotiate around $30 billion of foreign debt, including with bilateral creditors such as China, Japan, and India, with one of them likely to co-chair the talks."We have not reached such an agreement. It might be their wishful thinking but the situation remains unchanged," a senior Japanese government official with knowledge of the matter told Reuters on condition of anonymity.The denial from Tokyo came less than an hour after Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe's office said on Thursday that Japan had agreed to co-chair the meeting with negotiators.Wickremesinghe's office later issued a clarification saying Sri Lanka had requested Japan to co-chair the summit.

Bloomberg – Paris Club creditors reached out to China and India to coordinate Sri Lanka’s debt-restructuring talks, according to a person familiar with the matter, in an attempt to bring major global creditors together to rework the obligations of emerging economies.The club, an informal group of mostly rich, western bilateral creditors, is awaiting a response from both countries after it sent an official request in late August to work together, said an official who declined to be identified because talks are continuing.Coordinating on Sri Lanka may result in the formation of an official creditors committee or simply holding regular meetings to share information on debt treatment, the official said.Sri Lanka’s presidency said it’s unaware of the efforts by the club. Former Philadelphia police officer Edsaul Mendoza is facing murder charges for fatally shooting 12-year-old TJ Siderio in March.  PHILADELPHIA - A former Philadelphia police officer accused of fatally shooting a young boy earlier this year will head to trial on all charges, a judge ruled on Tuesday.Former officer Edsaul Mendoza is facing multiple charges including first-degree murder, third-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter in connection with the deadly shooting of 12-year-old Thomas "TJ" Siderio.Investigators say four plainclothes officers in an unmarked car were patrolling the area near the 1700 block of Barbara Street around 7 p.m. on March 1 when they spotted two juveniles on bikes. RELATED COVERAGE According to investigators, officers noticed that one of the juveniles was armed with a handgun and turned on the emergency lights to confront him.

PHILADELPHIA - An alleged mail fraud scheme could mean prison time and up to $8.5-million-fines for three men from the Philadelphia area.Sam Wolo, 21, of Philadelphia; Bruno Nyanue, 20, of Philadelphia; and Gransae Manue, 20, of Clifton Heights are charged with conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, aggravated identity theft, conspiracy to commit mail theft, possession of stolen mail and robbery of a postal carrier. All three men stole or attempted to steal more than $170,000 by "washing" and depositing checks and money orders stolen from USPS mailboxes in Drexel Hill, according to the U.S. District Attorney's Office.The stolen checks were often altered with amounts greater than the original value, without the victim's knowledge.Officials say they were able to repeatedly steal from mailboxes after forcibly robbing a letter carrier of his Arrow Key.MORE HEADLINES:About 372 stolen checks and 11 money orders totaling more than $170,000 were reportedly found in Wolo's apartment and vehicle. If convicted, Wolo faces a maximum of 236 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $8.5 million.
