One of the world's leading trials of a coronavirus vaccine have been paused after a participant fell ill. Johnson & Johnson said it had temporarily paused its COVID-19 vaccine candidate clinical trials due to an unexplained illness in a study participant.
A leading doctor says he feared the reason for the pause is a "serious neurological event". The trial is one of the highest profile efforts to contain the global pandemic.
But it's delay follows a similar incident in the UK in September to a participant in the Oxford University trials. The participant's illness is being reviewed and evaluated by an independent data and safety monitoring board as well as the company's clinical and safety physicians, the company said in a statement.
