The nationwide roll-out of the track-and-trace coronavirus phone app will be delayed for weeks in a fresh blow to the Government’s lockdown exit strategy.
It came as ministers said tests will now be available to anyone aged five and over with symptoms. Loss of taste and smell were today added to the list of symptoms that should warn sufferers to self-isolate to prevent passing on the disease – months after other countries had included it.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock told MPs: “Everyone aged five and over with symptoms is now eligible for a test. That applies right across the UK from now.” The testing expansion is meant to reassure parents and teachers as schools prepare to reopen next month.
