Demonstrations have erupted all across the country in response to George Floyds death in Minneapolis, Minnesota PHILADELPHIA - The City of Philadelphia has reached a record-breaking settlement with protesters who were hit with tear gas and pepper spray during protests against police brutality in the summer of 2020.Philadelphia law firm Mincey Fitzpatrick Ross, LLC announced the settlement in the federal lawsuit filed on behalf of 237 people injured in protests against the murder of George Floyd held in Philadelphia on May 31 and June 1, 2020.

The suit, which named Mayor Jim Kenney, Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw, former Philadelphia police officer Richard Nicoletti, and the City of Philadelphia, was negotiated with three other lawsuits filed by attorneys in federal court.During a press conference held on Monday morning, several case plaintiffs said they have an array of physical ailments caused by the police violence they experienced, including nerve damage from zip ties, scars from rubber bullets and reactions to chemical agents.

Body burned beyond recognition found in backseat of vehicle after car fire in Oxford Circle, authorities say

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities in Philadelphia are investigating after a body was found in the back seat of a burning car early Tuesday morning. According to officials, police responded to a car fire in the area of Sylvester and Howell Streets in the Oxford Circle section of the city just before 1 a.m. Police say officers and medics arrived on scene to find a Honda CRV fully engulfed in flames. Once the fire department put out the flames, authorities say they realized there was a body in the back seat. The individual in the back seat was pronounced dead shortly after, according to Chief Inspector Scott Small, who says the body was burned beyond recognition. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAuthorities say the inside of the vehicle was also completely burned and there is damage to the vehicle's exterior. According to police, the car was parked there just before 1 a.m. and two people got out before the vehicle went up in flames. The person's cause of death remains under investigation, Small says. Police: 2 transported to hospital after being shot in Montgomery County

LANSDALE, Pa. - Police in Montgomery County are investigating a double shooting that left two people hospitalized late Monday evening. According to the Lansdale Police Department, detectives were dispatched to the 400 block of Walnut Street for a report of a shooting shortly before 11:30 p.m. Authorities say one person was driven to and another was airlifted to local hospitals. Quick actions prevented chemical spill from impacting water supply in Philadelphia suburbs

BRISTOL, Pa. - Quick actions from those in charge of a water treatment facility near a chemical spill along the Delaware River prevented the harmful toxins from entering the plant. Health officials in Bucks County said Sunday that between 8,100 and 12,000 gallons of a water-based latex-finishing solution spilled into the river late Friday because of a burst pipe at the Trinseo Altuglas chemical facility in Bristol Township.The midnight spill happened at low tide less than half a mile upstream from the AQUA Pennsylvania water treatment facility. AQUA President Mark Lucca said by the time he heard about the spill the plant had already been shutdown thanks in part to early warning sensors that helped them decide to shut off water intake from the river. "The first thing people are asking us is ‘is my water safe to drink?’ It absolutely is safe to drink, how do we know? Because it never got into the plant" Lucca said.
