The chance of catching coronavirus in Britain is now one in 1,000 but "will never be 100% safe", according to a Government health official.
England's deputy chief medical officer Dr Jenny Harries, however, warned the understanding of individual risks with individual diseases is "still a learning process", adding: "It's a critical time - we need to be very careful." During Sunday's Downing Street briefing, she said the chance of meeting someone with the killer bug was one in 40 at the start of the pandemic.
But is now around one in 400 to 500, with the incidence of new cases sitting at one in 1,000. The death rate from the virus in the UK is over 38,000.
