Celebrity Masterchef fans were more focused on the lack of hygiene in the kitchen than the food that was being whisked up on Friday's episode.

The show - that sees famous faces battle it out in the kitchen - came under fire from viewers on social media for its lack of concern about health and safety because none of the hopefuls were covering their locks with hair nets.

Fans fumed as they watched Olympian Sam Quek, EastEnder's Phil Daniels and choir conductor Karen Gibson conjure up cuisine in the kitchen with their tresses flowing free.

Dom Littlewood also competed on the episode but his bald head meant he was not at risk of dropping a hair or two onto the dishes served up to judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.
