NEW YORK - It may sound like the start of a joke but an Alaskan woman did remove an opossum from a Brooklyn bar.It happened last week at Temkin's Bar on Greenpoint Avenue in the Greenpoint section.Sara Fulton, who is an Alaskan native, calmly grabbed the animal by the scruff of its neck and carried it outside after it had wandered in through an open door.Chris Egan shot a video of the removal. He said that the lost opossum was visibly distressed by the crowded bar."This poor thing, with its nocturnal eyesight, and [a] rambunctious crowd, ran confused looking for a way out.

Unfortunately, it’s not too easy for these scary but docile marsupials to escape this environment, so it headed for a corner," Egan told Storyful. This isn't a joke.

An opossum really did walk into a bar in Brooklyn last week. Sara Fulton, who is an Alaskan native, calmly grabbed the animal by the scruff of its neck and carried it outside Temkin's Bar on Greenpoint Avenue.Egan said that was when the woman in the video stepped in "without flinching" and said, "Hold my phone, I’m from Alaska."Other patrons screamed as Fulton walked through the bar with the opossum. After putting the animal down outside she simply brushed her hands together and walked back to the bar.The Brooklyn-based news outlet Greenpointers reported that Fulton shared the moment on her Instagram profile, adding the simple caption, "I did that.""She did the right thing, and like an opossum whisperer, grabbed it from behind like a feline, and walked it outside, gently dropping it on the sidewalk and letting it head back home to whatever empty lot or backyard it called home," Egan said.Chris Egan via Storyful Chris Egan via Storyful .

Police: Off-duty corrections officer carjacked at gunpoint, shoots at alleged carjacker in Feltonville
PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating after an off-duty corrections officer was carjacked at gunpoint and shot at the alleged carjacker in Feltonville on Monday night. According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, officers with the 25th District received a 911 call for a robbery and gunshots on the 200 block of E Roosevelt Boulevard around 11 p.m. When officers arrived on location, they were met by an off-duty corrections officer, 59, who said he was leaving a friend's house and getting into his Toyota Avalon when he was approached by a man with a gun who pulled him out of the car, police say. According to authorities, the alleged carjacker got into the driver's seat of the car and began to drive away as the off-duty corrections officer fired five shots at the suspect and the car. The suspect sped off in the car and officers located it about 25 minutes later on the 4900 block of Bingham Street, officials say. Small says the vehicle was found with five bullet holes in it and fresh blood inside the car. Authorities say officers were also notified that a 21-year-old shooting victim with a gunshot wound in each arm showed up for treatment at Temple Hospital. Small says there is a possibility that the shooting victim may be the alleged carjacker and authorities are investigating. According to police, the off-duty officer said the suspect was wearing a surgical mask and a hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head.

Crypto thieves steal $100M in digital coins from US firm Harmony
LOS ANGELES - Harmony, a crypto firm in the United States, said on Friday it was robbed of approximately $100 million in digital currency, the latest in a string of cyber heists, Reuters reported. Harmony’s main mode of business involves developing blockchains, a decentralized digital ledger which keeps track of digital transactions of currency like crypto. The company tweeted it was "working with national authorities and forensic specialists to identify the culprit and retrieve the stolen funds," without giving further details.Harmony did not immediately respond to requests for comment sent via email and social media. These blockchains serve to offer loans and other financial services bypassing traditional centralized banking institutions most consumers have to go through to get credit and other forms of lending. Harmony, based in California, said crypto thieves hacked into their software where they were able to steal a variety of valuable cryptocurrencies including bitcoin and ether. Companies within the crypto sector have become increasingly targeted due to the volatility of the industry and lack of regulation. Over $1 billion has been stolen from blockchains so far in 2022, according to London-based blockchain analytics firm Elliptic. Another crypto heist which made U.S. headlines involved over $625 million in Ethereum and USD Coin which was stolen from the Ronin blockchain network.Ronin is a blockchain project used by the popular, non-fungible token (NFT)-based online game Axie Infinity, developed by publisher Sky Mavis.
