Air India might run 64 flights to bring back thousands of Indians stuck abroad

NEW DELHI : To bring back thousands of Indians who are stranded abroad because of the coronavirus lockdown, the central government is likely to ask Air India and its subsidiary Air India Express to run 64 flights to 12 countries.

According to a PTI report, the government will operate 64 flights from May 7 to 13. The flights would run in 12 countries -- the UAE, the UK, the US, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman. "Approximately 14,800 Indian nationals are likely to return to the country through these 64 flights during the seven-day period.
