As Queen Elizabeth II continues to lie in state ahead of her funeral on Monday, mourners gathering to pay their respects to the longest-reigning monarch in British history will do so inside a building that has borne witness to 900 years of monarchy, pageantry and tales straight from the history books – Westminster Hall.

And while it shares a name with the perhaps better-known Westminster Abbey where the queen was crowned, Westminster Hall has a history all of its own and is in fact nearly “the only part of the ancient Palace of Westminster which survives in almost its original form,” according to the British government. At the time it was built, it was “by far the largest hall in England, and probably in Europe at that time,” the government’s heritage website states.

It’s the oldest building on the parliamentary grounds, which includes sites like the U.K. Parliament buildings and the Big Ben clock tower, while Westminster Abbey lies across the street.

COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Association of Health Entomology Officials have identified two new mosquito species in the country.Its National Organizer, Disnaka Dissanayake mentioned that one species of mosquito called Culex sintellus has been reported from Mirigama and Kalutara areas.Previously, the same mosquito species has been reported from countries such as Thailand and India.The other species of mosquito identified from Sri Lanka is called Culex niyainfula.This particular species of mosquito, which is widespread in India, is a carrier of the disease called cerebral malaria.Dissanayake mentioned that investigations are underway as to whether this mosquito species is an active vector in Sri Lanka.He added that samples of 4 other mosquito species found in Sri Lanka have been sent to a Korean university for identification.

Centre will not procure fresh Covid vaccines; surrenders ₹4,237 cr from vaccination budget

₹4,237 crore, or nearly 85% of the 2022-23 budget allocation for inoculation purposes. The Centre informed more than 1.8 crore doses are still available with the governments and the stock is sufficient to continue the vaccination drive for around six months. "Any decision on whether to procure Covid vaccine doses through the government channel or get (fresh) budget allocations for the purpose after six months will depend on the coronavirus situation prevailing in the country at that time," an official source told PTI.
