Boris Johnson has unleashed a sweeping spending plan to help Britain deal with the economic shock of coronavirus. The Prime Minister warned the recession would be worse than the 2008 crash as he unveiled money for roads, hospitals, schools, homes and town centres.
He also promised action soon on long-dodged social care reform; an offer of an apprenticeship or placement for every young person; and an overhaul of planning rules.
But a lot of the money or schemes he announced had already been confirmed in the March Budget. And there are questions over exactly what some of his reforms will do.
Meanwhile he wouldn't commit to an NHS pay rise - and didn't rule out either tax rises or tax cuts to foot the bill for his spending blitz.
