Latest figures show that 1,842 tests for Covid-19 were carried out in 108 schools in the seven days from 7-13 March. According to the Health Service Executive report, the number of detected cases of the virus in that period across all schools was 44, representing a positivity rate of 2.4%.
The figure is higher than the previous week when 529 tests were carried out with six cases detected - a positivity rate of 1.1%.
Tests were conducted at 65 primary, 37 post primary and six special education schools last week. According to the report, 62 cases were detected in childcare facilities in the same period, representing a positivity rate of 11.3%.
