PHILADELPHIA - Police in Philadelphia are investigating two deadly hit-and-runs that happened just hours apart Friday night. The first incident happened at approximately 8:55 p.m. on the 2700 block of Island Avenue.Police say a 46-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

PHILADELPHIA - For the 24th year in a row, the Katie Kirlin Youth Wheelchair Basketball Tournament took place over the weekend featuring athletes from several states on the East Coast. "It’s an exciting sport to watch! If you’ve never seen it before, you got to check it out, these athletes are amazing what they can do, they’re handling the wheelchair, they’re handling a basketball, it’s an amazing sport," said Erica Young, Program Director with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation. The tournament is in honor of Katie Kirlin who was paralyzed in the late 80’s and later died in 1989. Her parents keep her memory alive through this event. "She became paralyzed in '87…there was no Junior wheelchair sports in Philadelphia at the time…after her death we realized that we needed to start something. There’s no funding for wheelchair sports.

GEORGETOWN, Del. - Delaware police say two men were fatally shot inside a restaurant during an altercation with two masked people who had entered the establishment. State police say it happened early Saturday evening at the El Nopalito Restaurant in Georgetown. A 28-year-old man was declared dead at the scene, while the 31-year-old was pronounced dead at a local hospital. No arrests had been made early Sunday. Police say the two suspects had been part of a group that had been asked to leave the restaurant earlier due to disorderly behavior. Authorities say the suspects returned later.

SHARON HILL, Pa. - The Sharon Hill Borough Council will meet Thursday night to decide if three police officers can keep their jobs after they were charged in the shooting death of a child outside a high school football game last summer.Councilmembers will vote on a motion to fire officer Devon Smith, Sean Dolan and Brian Devaney at their regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m.A grand jury on Tuesday recommended the charges against the three officers in the August 27 shooting that killed Fanta Bility. Murder charges previously filed against two Black teenagers for firing the gunshots that prompted the officers to shoot were also dropped Tuesday, according to a news release from the Delaware County District Attorney’s office.Each officer was charged with 10 counts of reckless endangerment and one count of manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter, according to the charging documents.Court records show all three men had their preliminary arraignments Tuesday morning and each was released on unsecured $500,000 bail.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia City Councilman Bobby Henon has announced his resignation, effective at 8 a.m. Thursday morning. Henon's resignation comes months after he was convicted on multiple counts in a weeks-long corruption trial. During the trial, prosecutors said Philadelphia labor leader Johnny "Doc" Dougherty kept Henon, a union electrician-turned-Philadelphia City Council member, on the payroll to help his union keep a tight grip on construction jobs. During the six-week trial, the government played wiretaps of the pair speaking about Dougherty’s interest in issues before city council.Henon was convicted of 10 counts, including conspiracy, bribery and honest services wire fraud.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police have released new video they say shows a violent attack on a teenage boy over the weekend. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning on the 600 block of West Clearfield Street in North Philadelphia. Surveillance video released by police on Wednesday shows the suspect walking into the store and standing near the front door. When the victim, a 17-year-old boy, walks into the store, the suspect can be seen punching him. MORE HEADLINES: The suspect then follows him outside, where police say he shot him twice in the upper body.

PHILADELPHIA - A man was rushed to the hospital after law enforcement sources say an argument on SEPTA's Broad Street line ended in a shooting in North Philadelphia.The incident occurred around noon on the platform of the North Philadelphia Station near Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue.Police sources told FOX 29's Steve Keeley that the shooting "appears to be a case of self-defense by a man with a permit to carry." Keeley reports that the incident started when a man was harassing a woman aboard the SEPTA train when an armed rider intervened. PHILADELPHIA - Officials say a body that was found Wednesday morning outside a Philadelphia all-girls high school is not a current student. Philadelphia High School for Girls Principal Lisa Mesi confirmed Wednesday night that the body of an "unidentified female" was found outside the school building around 6:30 a.m. Mesi said the school contacted authorities after the gruesome discovery and the body was taken to a local hospital."We can assure you that our staff is working diligently to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for our students while police conduct this investigation," Mesi said in a letter to families. The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating the incident, but they have not shared comments as of this writing. The Philadelphia High School for Girls is offering counseling through the School District of Philadelphia's Office of Prevention and Intervention.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia health officials say the city is starting to see a drop in the number of new COVID-19 cases identified, but say the new numbers don't mean the danger has passed. Last week, Philadelphia Health Commissioner Dr. Cheryl Bettigole stated that the city may be starting to see a peak in the wave brought on by the omicron variant. Since then, Bettigole says the number of new cases has dropped.
