Worry as school Covid rates soar to record high in some Greater Manchester boroughs

Infection rates are the highest among 10 to 14-year-olds and we reported last week how Stockport and Tameside had more cases than they've had throughout the pandemic.

Now the most recent figures show the situation is getting even worse, with one in 43 children in Stockport testing positive in the week ending September 21 - believed to be the highest rate recorded in Greater Manchester for any age group, with the exception of the university outbreak in Manchester at the start of October last year.
