The Rocklin Police Department in California posted about the incident on its Facebook page Monday."Rocklin resident got quite a surprise last week after realizing a tiny ‘kitten’ she had rescued turned out to be a fox kit," authorities posted. "A concerned family member called us after seeing the scared little guy and Animal Control responded to transport the critter to Gold Country Wildlife Rescue."The mishap has prompted police to issue warnings to people if they come across orphaned or injured wildlife.

The Humane Society of the United States has also issued guidelines. With regards to foxes, the society said the animals will appear unsupervised for long periods of time because their parents are hunting for food.

Officials said fox kits should be observed from a distance and if they appear energetic and healthy, leave them alone. However, if they appear to be sick, weak or orphaned, a licensed wildlife rehabilitator should be contacted. RELATED: ‘Lost puppy’ rescued by family turns out to be baby coyoteIt’s not the first time people have mistaken their pets for wildlife.

Freeze frame from "Blood and Honey" featuring Pooh and Piglet and an unsuspecting victim. (Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios )Calling all horror fans! A Winnie-the-Pooh-themed horror movie called "Blood and Honey" is in the works so brace yourself to have one of your favorite childhood stories twisted with bloodshed and fear. Join Pooh and Piglet as they embark on a journey of life after Christopher Robin, though this is far less fairytale-like than Disney’s live-action "Christopher Robin," starring Ewan McGregor. While Disney was not involved in this particular production, the movie's premise still follows the classic characters Pooh and Piglet through the Hundred Acre Wood. In the movie, the pair of best friends scavenge for food which has become scarce following Christopher’s departure to college, according to Rhys Frake-Waterfield, writer, producer and director of the film. Freeze frame from "Blood and Honey" featuring Pooh and Piglet sitting by a camp fire.  (Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios )WATCH FREE ON TUBI: "Shirley Temple’s Storybook: Winnie the Pooh" The movie will only feature Pooh and Piglet and a piece of Eeyore because, well, they eat the lovable somber donkey. Christopher does return, however, only to find his friends are not how he left them as they’ve become feral, Frake-Waterfield told FOX TV Stations in an email. Upon seeing Christopher, Pooh and Piglet revert to their animal instincts and go on a rampage, attacking hikers and campers nearby their den of horrors. Freeze frame from "Blood and Honey" featuring Pooh standing menacingly in a walkway.  (Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios )WATCH FREE ON TUBI: Revisit A.A. Pete Davidson and Kate McKinnon (Photos by Paul Morigi and Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images) NEW YORK - Pete Davidson bid farewell to "Saturday Night Live" on the show’s finale this weekend after eight seasons with the late-night program. The 28-year-old made his final goodbye on the "Weekend Update" news segment, saying hello to co-hosts Colin Jost, Michael Che and "millions of people only watching to see if I bring up Kanye."Davidson began dating Kanye West's ex Kim Kardashian after she hosted the show last October, raising the ire of the "Stronger" rapper. Kardashian wasn't at the show because she's in Italy for her sister Kourtney Kardashian's wedding. "I never imagined this would be my life," he said, adding when he first started at 20 years old he was "just a skinny kid and no one knew what race I was." But he says now everyone knows he’s White because he "became hugely successful while barely showing up to work." FILE - Pete Davidson attends The 2022 Met Gala Celebrating "In America: An Anthology of Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 02, 2022 in New York City.  (Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)In a reference to Will Smith slapping "SNL" alum Chris Rock, Davidson self-deprecatingly joked that on one hand, he doesn’t condone audience members jumping onstage to hit comedians but "on the other it’s how I know all my shows will be sold out."The comedian said he would miss "SNL" creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels who he said gives him the best advice, including during his audition for the show."He looked me right in the eye and said 'I don't know, I don't think you're right for this show, so let's screw this up together,' " Davidson said.
