Boris Johnson has been busy unveiling yet another flurry of Covid rules. Until August 16, people in England who come into contact with a Covid sufferer are told to self-isolate for up to 10 days.
That sent more than 600,000 people into isolation last week alone, a figure that will only get worse as cases rise. Despite fears of the nation entering gridlock, Downing Street has stuck by the August 16 date - insisting it is “the right time” to drop the current isolation rules.
But as a compromise, certain “critical workers” will now be exempt - from NHS staff, railway signallers and air traffic controllers to workers at 500 food sites.
