White House to offer 400 million free N95s to Americans

The Biden administration today confirmed officials will make available and free to the public 400 million N95 respirators to be distributed at community health centers and pharmacies across the country.The news follows yesterday's launch of a website through which Americans could order up to four free COVID-19 tests.

The respirators will be sent out beginning later this week.The N95s come from the Strategic National Stockpile and are known to filter out 95% or more of airborne particles when fitted properly.

Early in the pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) discouraged the use of respirators by the public because they were in short supply for medical personnel.The CDC updated that guidance earlier this week, saying that Americans should wear the most protective masks or respirators available to them.The CDC Nowcast estimates that the Omicron variant accounts for 99.5% of new COVID-19 cases in the United States, and because it is more transmissible than previous variants, mask mandates are once again being put in place in cities across the country.Almost 1 million pediatrics casesFrom Jan 6 to Jan 13, more than 981,000 child COVID-19 cases were reported in the United States, according to the latest weekly update from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), marking a 69% increase from the previous week."Reported child COVID-19 cases among children have spiked dramatically across the United States.

COLOMBO (News 1st); The suspect who was charged with placing a hand grenade at the All Saint’s Church premises in Borella and was detained by Sri Lanka Police, provided a statement to the Colombo Additional Magistrate for over an hour and a half, behind closed doors.The suspect was identified as Liyanage Dayasena and was produced to court by the Colombo Crimes Division.He provided a statement behind closed doors in the presence of Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya, after his request to do so was accepted by the court.The Colombo Crimes Division told the court that the suspect will be detained for a period of 90 days with permission from the Defence Secretary for further investigations.The CCD also told the court that the other six suspects who were arrested over the incident during the course of the investigations will continue to remain in detention for further inquiry.The Colombo Crimes Division arrested an individual identified as ‘Ranale Ruwan’ from Ranna, in Hambantota on Thursday (20).‘Ranale Ruwan’ was wanted by authorities as it was believed that it was he who provide the hand grenade that was discovered at the All Saint’s Church in Borella on the 11th of January 2022.Sri Lanka Police said that the hand grenade was placed at the Church in Borella on the instructions of a retired doctor from Piliyandala, who was arrested on Monday (17).Investigations carried out by the Colombo Crimes Division revealed that a suspect detained by the Colombo Harbour Police is believed to have placed the hand grenade at the Church in Borella, and he was identified as a 65-year-old from Panamure.Police said that the suspect had visited the All Saint’s Church in Borella on the day of the incident, and his presence was
