After more than three years of turmoil, disruption and heartache, world leaders are signaling that the Covid-19 emergency is ending.

The viral illness that has sickened and killed millions is becoming a more manageable, long-term foe. The World Health Organization on May 5 declared an end to the global public-health emergency.

The public-health emergency in the U.S. is set to expire on May 11, and Dr. Rochelle Walensky is stepping down as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Covid-19 hospitalizations and deaths now are relatively muted, thanks in part to vaccines, tests and treatments that have helped boost our defenses.

The presence of asbestos materials itself is not a risk.
